THE HISTORY OF MU XI CHAPTER
In the early part of the 1970’s, the African- American population of the western suburbs of Chicago grew considerably. With this increase in the Black community many individuals saw a need to find avenues in which to socialize. Many of these individuals were already gathering in a church setting, working together professionally, or participating with the local chapter of the NAACP.
On March 11, 1977, the Supreme Council duly charted Mu Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The newly formed chapter celebrated its inception on April 29, 1977, when it hosted “Charter Night” to acknowledge its rightful place within the history of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
